South African commuters set fire to commuter train

Metrorail spokeswoman Lillian Mofokeng said in a statement Friday that commuters set the train on fire Thursday night after they were caught without valid tickets.

Mofokeng said no one was hurt, and that Metrorail authorities evacuated the 26 passengers. The train was running between Johannesburg and the capital of Pretoria.

The economic hub of Johannesburg has poor and unsafe transport infrastructure. Ahead of the World Cup last year, the government launched a bus system but its routes are limited.
